• 理查德‧阿維頓 (1923-2004) 是美國時尚攝影大師，逝世時《紐約時報》以「他的時尚與肖像攝影，定義了美國近半世纪的風格、美麗及文化影像」作為評論。他為許多名人拍攝過，如瑪莉蓮夢露、奧黛麗赫本、約翰藍儂等。

• upside (n.) 正面，好處。例：The upside of the whole thing was that we got a free vacation. • 雪莉‧桑德伯格 (1969-) 為 Facebook 首席營運長，並在 2012 年成為 Facebook 首位女董事。她在加入 Facebook 前擔任 Google 副總裁，負責全球在線銷售和營運，她著有《挺身而進》(Lean In) 一書，在書中分享親身經歷，鼓勵女性把握機會、爭取更高成就，能有自主選擇與公平競爭的機會。

• bear (v.) 忍受。ridicule (n.) 嘲笑，揶揄。例：She became an object of ridicule. (她成為被人揶揄的對象。) reproach (n.) 責備，斥責。例：The reproach is useless. He won’t listen. (責怪沒有用，他不會聽進去。) for… sake 因為… 的緣故。例：He moved to the beach for Mary’s sake. (他為了瑪莉而搬到海邊。) rejoice (v.) 欣喜，歡樂。例：Her family rejoiced at the good news. (她家人在收到好消息後感到欣喜。)
• 露意莎‧梅‧奧爾柯特 (1832-1888) 是美國小說家、著名小說《小婦人》的作者，自幼受「超驗主驗」思想的影響，與當時著名知識份子包括愛默生、梭羅交好。她也是反黑奴運動及女權運動的提倡者。
