• starry (adj.) 如星星般的，閃閃發光的。例：starry reflections on the water (水面上閃閃發亮的反射光)。stream (n.) 小河，溪流。例：underground streams (地底下的溪流)。
• 愛德溫‧馬爾侃（1852-1940）是美國詩人，曾積極參加勞工運動，以畫家米勒作品「倚鋤的人」為題發表的詩作最為著名，常被拿來當米勒畫作的註解。

• “persevere” 是「堅持；不屈不撓」，為動詞；”perseverance” 則是「毅力」，為名詞。”obstacle” 是「阻礙；障礙」，為名詞。”effort” 是「氣力；努力」，為名詞；”effortless” 則是「毫不費力的」，為形容詞。”attain” 是「得到；獲得」，為動詞。
• 海倫‧凱勒 (1880-1968) 是美國知名的作家、演說家，是第一位取得大學文學士的聾盲人士。海倫‧凱勒也是美國社會黨成員，還參加了反對戰爭、婦女參政、勞工權力、及社會主義等運 動。她的啟蒙老師安‧蘇利文 (Anne Sullivan) 如何開導她在戲劇及電影 The Miracle Worker 以及她的自傳 The Story of My Life 中有生動的描述，也因此而聞名於世。
